NEW YORK, NY (Feb. 19, 2014) – In its second year being hosted by Caesars Entertainment, whether it be at Caesars Atlantic City or Caesars Palace, it’s cook or be cooked in this year’s Culinary Battles® search for America’s Supreme Asian Chef. Culinary Battles® has searched some of the country’s top cities for chefs vying for the title.
For the first time, live audiences are invited to participate in the three event series. The first will take place on Mar. 1 at Caesars Atlantic City, the second on Mar. 15 at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Pasadena, Calif., culminating in the ultimate showdown on Apr. 26 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Today, the list of chefs to battle it out were revealed.
The East Coast chef competitors hail from the top culinary cities of New York and Philadelphia. They are: Jay Cho, Chul Kee Ko of Fushimi, Dongchan Lee of Barn Joo, David Park, Jenny Wang and Luo Jiang Yong of Jane G’s Restaurant.
Joining the fray on the West Coast from Los Angeles are: Perry Cheung of Phorage, Chris Oh of Seoul Sausage, Kathy Nguyen of Uyen Thy Bistro, Yoya Takeshi of Hamasaku, Erwin Tjahyadi of Komodo Food and Corey Vuu of the Academy of Art Culinaire.
In the tradition of ancient battles, live audiences are invited to participate as only two chefs on each coast advance to the Culinary Battles® final being held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Temperatures will be hitting an all-time high and the heated debate of which coast is home to the greater Asian chefs and restaurants will be laid to rest come Apr. 26, 2014.
As the exclusive Culinary Battles® chef host, TV personality Chef Diane Henderiks will encourage the audience, the chefs and the judges, to find America's Supreme Asian Chef.
Culinary Battles® will boast an all-star panel of judges including for Caesars Atlantic City: Chef Justin Antiorio and Barbie Marshall of Hell’s Kitchen: Season 10 (FOX) and legendary Master Chef, Joseph Poon. For the Los Angeles battle at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts: Serious Eats contributor Damon Gambuto, celebrity chef Jet Tila, Le Cordon Bleu lead instructor Jeff Jimenez and executive chef for David Myers’ Hinoki & The Bird Kuniko Yagi.
“Never before has an entertainment giant such as Caesars acknowledged the Asian community, culture and cuisine in this manner," states Master Chef Joseph Poon. "Asian cuisine has so many flavors and varieties that have yet to be uncovered by the American public. Culinary Battles® is the perfect platform to better expose Asian culture to all audiences."
Culinary Battles® was created in partnership with Caesars Entertainment to raise awareness of Asian culture and give back to the community through an innovative recognition program. Culinary Battles® seeks chefs that demonstrate an innovative approach to traditional Asian dishes and most importantly, capture the richness and diversity of Asian culture and cuisine.
“We are always looking for new ways to provide top-notch entertainment to our guests,” says Phillip Auerbach, Caesars Entertainment Senior Vice President of Hospitality & Entertainment Marketing. “These action-packed cooking competitions are a great way to celebrate diverse cultures, while feeding our country’s hunger for Asian cuisine.”
